Our Activities

Biodiversity

Since its creation, CHRISAR, through the passion and conviction of its employees, has been committed to the protection of biodiversity with a particular focus on marine mammals. This approach has resulted in the development of tools within the bio-acoustic field , acoustic impact studies and even systems to reduce the risk of collision between ships and whales.

Limiting the risk of collisions between ships and large cetaceans

The permanent increase in maritime traffic is increasingly threatening to whale populations in many parts of the world. Scientists now believe that collisions with commercial ships are one of the leading causes of death among whales.

REPCET©

,developped in collaboration with NGO Souffleurs d'Ecume, was born from the idea that this traffic density could be used as an opportunity to establish a real-time network reporting whale positions to reduce the risk of collisions. This network is based on the commitment of seafarers to collaborate sharing the motivation of obtaining a common goal : to allow whales and vessels to coexist by increasing global awareness of these animals. A true act of biodiversity protection.

ACOUSTIC IMPACT STUDIES

Acoustic impact studies on marine mammals

CHRISAR uses its expertise in propagation, measurement of underwater acoustic signals, knowledge of sound perception and of marine mammal behaviour to conduct impact studies of anthropogenic noise (noise generated by human activity) on cetaceans.
In addition to these studies, CHRISAR offers monitoring system solutions to alert in the case of threshold infractions and detection of cetaceans.
